Carnival Time

The Cabaret is in Town

February into March is Carnival Time in the island region. We got to witness our first carnival and I must admit, I did not think it would be up to much however we were pleasantly surprised and can say that next year we will most definitely be better prepared. Before going into further details about the carnival let me mention a few of the other matters that have taken place and in specific to ENAD, who played her first football match which fell under the ‘indoor’ rules. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for her and she has been stating that she looks forward to her next match.

MrsDuck, as mentioned, is the assistant coach and the weekly routine returned to normal after the ‘carnival week’ which coincides with the ‘sports week’ in Scandinavia, so the gaggle did not have schooling for the week.

Puerto Del Carmen Carnival

The islands are well known for carnivals this time of year and Puerto Del Carmen (PdC) has a tradition of providing the 2nd largest carnival on the island. I must admit, at first I was apprehensive about the carnival as there had been a fair amount of stress going on as we had recently upgraded our servers to php 5.3 and this had led to a great amount of ‘fire-fighting’ and the needed changes to sites. Having experienced matters related to this, I was truly not up for the carnival but had to go down to the main strip so the ‘gaggle’ could witness the festivities.

The carnival works via the process of different categories walking past you dressed according to their theme. A great amount of drums and music accompanies the occasion.

So we settled down by our side of the curb and the first two or three groups starting passing us with the music and dancing creating a buzz.

I began to relax and must say, the carnival was excellent.

There were 50 floats in total, all delivering their own message and the music and dancing that went along with it had you shuffling to the rhythm.

To be part of this is well worth a visit at this time of year and we shall be building an interest around this for 2013.
